Privacy & POPIA notice

How we collect, use and protect your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Who we are

The Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled (CTAPD), Reable Centre, 152 Tarentaal Road, Bridgetown, Athlone, 7764. Registered NPO 006-473, PBO 18/11/13/4545. Our Information Officer is the Chief Executive Officer, contactable at reable@ctapd.org.za or 021 637 1204.

What we collect

  • When you contact us: your name, email address, phone number and message.
  • When you request a section 18A tax certificate: your name or registered name, donor type, ID or registration number, income tax reference number, contact details, address, and the date and amount of your donation. These fields are required by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) for a valid certificate.
  • When you donate: your payment is processed by Payfast, a registered South African payment provider. We do not see or store your card or banking details.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

We use your information only to respond to your enquiry, to administer your donation, to issue your section 18A tax certificate, and to meet our legal obligations, including the annual IT3(d) third-party reporting that section 18A institutions must submit to SARS under the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962 and the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011. Our lawful basis is your consent and compliance with these legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for marketing. We share it only where the law requires or where it is necessary to provide the service you asked for, namely: with SARS, as part of our IT3(d) reporting and section 18A obligations; and with Payfast, to process your donation. Our service providers are bound to protect your information.

Embedded Facebook feed and cookies

Some pages display our live Facebook feed using Meta’s official page plugin. When that feed loads, Meta (Facebook) may set cookies and receive technical information such as your IP address and browser, under Meta’s own privacy terms. The feed shows only our own public posts. If you would prefer not to load it, you can still see everything by visiting our Facebook page directly, and most browsers let you block third-party cookies.

How we protect and keep it

We apply reasonable organisational and technical safeguards to protect your information. We keep donation and tax-certificate records for as long as required by tax and audit law (generally at least five years), after which they are securely disposed of.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it (subject to records we must keep by law), and object to its use. To exercise any of these rights, contact our Information Officer at reable@ctapd.org.za. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
